Well, another week in the books…Does anyone else feel like this season is flying by?
Top 16 piece:
-Not one of my favorite pieces, but I thought there were some cool partnering moments and some awesome moments (like when the girls were leaning off the stage). Not my favorite so far, but it was a good piece. Happy to see Mandy back!
Val & Ricky (Bollywood) - I absolutely adore these two! The energy in this dance was through the roof! I loved watching it and I felt Valerie’s emotions were a bit more genuine than Ricky’s! I do wish that some movements from both of them were a bit sharper and I do wish that Nigel & co. would’ve critiqued them both on it, but I still think they’re a fabulous duo. I am over the “cutesy” from them…We know they can do them. Give them a sexy/serious ballroom or a super hard-hitting hiphop so I can see some serious movements and not so much fun! I love it, I do…but I need something more… I think Valerie needs it too that so she can have more credit from a lot of people. I think she’s a fabulous dancer who just so happens to have a partner who the judges adore…and I think since people are always comparing her to him, she seems mediocre and she’s not.
Bridget & Emilio (Contemporary) - I love you Travis, but I wanted the prop to be used more! I think this duo has incredible chemistry. I loved the technique from both of them and I was very much impressed with Emilio! What a fabulous duet.. Some of the movements were so gorgeous and intricate — so impressed by this pairing!
Rudy and Tanisha (Hiphop) TANISHA IS A BEAST. Rudy is FABULOUS. Tanisha is one hot dancer! Her sexiness didn’t feel forced — it just felt right. The two of them were so smooth and their chemistry is fabulous! Rudy did a GOOD job.. Even if there were mistakes and such, I didn’t even notice it…which I think is huge. I wanted a bit more from the choreography and it’s hard because I can’t really tell you what.. I just wanted to see something more; but this was definitely one of the best duets of the night!
Jessica and Marquet (Foxtrot) Well - when I saw what style they had..made me think that Nigel & co. were trying to get rid of them. If Jessica makes it through next week, I’ll be shocked.. Superficial moment, I LOVED their look. Jessica was stunning and Marcquet was dapper! I didn’t love the dance and I didn’t hate it.. I expected it to be much worse than it was.. I just feel bad, but I wasn’t connecting with it and some of the technique seemed like it should’ve been stronger. There were some great moments though in it though… and I wish they got a bit more credit!
Carly & Serge (Contemporary) - Sorry, but I was too annoyed at first to enjoy this. This couple had contemporary week 1, so this is the second time in 3 weeks they had contemp… I just want to see them both do something ELSE. Everyone is saying Carly is a BEAST and super versatile and I agree that she’s great, but I wouldn’t say versatile until I see more than 2 contemps and a hiphop. All that aside -There were some amazing (and scary - that fall to the foot?! WHAT?!) moments. Serge did a wonderful job and his genuine emotion was on point once again. It was a great piece overall!
Teddy and Emily (Salsa) - I wish we could’ve seen in rehearsal that Emily was injured, because the whole dance looked awkward and they were not going full out…but it made sense after Nigel’s comment about the injury. I was SO nervous when Emily slipped, but I think she did a good recovery. I actually didn’t notice her slip until I saw it all over twitter and then I had to rewind it. I think this could’ve been a fabulous piece if a different duo would’ve done it. But…I think they both did a decent job all things considered!
Jacque & Zack (Jazz) - I didn’t love the choreo, didn’t connect to the emotion, HATED the costumes…It was not one of my favorites. But… I have to admit - the two of them had great technique and there were some cool tricks in that dance. Zack and Jacque are both improving so much each week and they continue to surprise me!
Brooklyn and Casey (hiphop) - I love Wildabeast, so I hate to say this, but I was NOT a fan of this routine. I needed to see two different dancers do this. I have to give Casey and Brooklyn credit, because they did better than I expected..but the whole thing seemed uncomfortable to me? The costumes felt so workout-ish and I wasn’t a fan of that. I was just as much distracted/annoyed by that as I was the chemistry/feel of the dance. I would’ve rather seen Tanisha and Rudy do this one or some other couple.
Small group Sonya: I LOVED THIS! The partnering, technique, and emotion were ALL on point. The emotion/connection was so genuine and I think that made 80% of the dance as incredible as it was! So good to see the dancers in this. I have to admit, I wish more dancers would’ve been given mini solos like Tanisha (but SERIOUSLY..she gave me CHILLS), but that’s just me wanting to see more of the non-favorites getting love.
TRAVIS WALL STOLE THE SHOW WITH THIS ONE. I admit, never expected that kind of energy and choreo from Travis, but I am OBSESSED with this piece. The music, costumes, makeup..everything fit just right.. I loved how FULL OUT this was. Every moment was SO intense, fast, and intricate… What a WAY to end the show. Loved everyone in that dance, but Ricky and Carly (thanks to their featuring) stood out the most to me in that. JUST WOW!
B3: Surprised to see Zack and Tanisha there… Sad to see Serge there once again :( Why isn’t he connecting? He’s great!
Elimination: I knew Marcquet was going just based on his run and how rough Nigel was on him. I was a bit more nervous for the girls prior to Brooklyn’s hiphop. If she would’ve slayed, I think someone else would’ve left…but I wasn’t shocked after her duet wasn’t stellar and after the night Tanisha had.
Overall, I wasn’t as pleased with tonight’s episode as I was previous episodes. The group dances were HUGE and made the night much better!
Bottom 6 predictions (A mix of who I want to see there and/or who I think should be based on this week..) But…to be honest I have NO idea who the b6 will be let alone which 4 are going….This scares me because the tour and top 10 are huge. If anything, they may take the top 14 like they did for s10 or maybe the top 12 like in s9. I mean, not making tour will be devastating for whoever doesn’t make it, but not all hope is lost.
Leaving? Not a clue.
What did you all think of this week?
