How It’s Done- Top 18 Group - This duo can come back and choreograph ANY TIME. This has been my favorite group dance thus far. I usually dislike crazy costumes and insane concepts, but I really loved everything about this! YESS for two good group routines in a row!
Stay With Me- Jacque & Zack (Keone & Mari) - Love K&M’s work.. So unique, and more intriciate and difficult than most lyrical hiphop type routines. I admit, I didn’t know if either one of them were going to do well, but I was thankfully proved wrong. They had great chemistry, good movements, and the overall theme of the dance was adorable! This is the first time Jacque has been on my radar, so I’m happy about that! Good routine - I just hope going first didn’t hurt them in this case.
Disappear- Jourdan & Marcquet (Dee Caspary) - I have such mixed feelings about this. I love Dee, this choreo, and the concept - just not the two dancing it. I have yet to connect with Jourdan and like Jessica — I think Marcquet is struggling a bit with changing partners so much…. Nigel was a bit too harsh on Marcquet though.. A few weeks ago he was praised for being too versatile and yet now it’s a problem. Don’t pull that sh*t, Nigel. It’s unncessary and makes everything you say after that idiotic.
Funkier Than A Mosquito’s Tweeter- Jessica & Stanley (Tyce Diorio) - I hate when Tyce does anything other than contemporary, because it almost always is awful. I had high hopes for this pairing, but this routine killed the two of them. The choreography was all over the place, the costumes were not flattering by any means, and the RUG was tooooo much. At least let your choreography match your theme, Tyce! Jessica is getting killed with these styles and with the constant change of partners. The girl has technique for days, but it’s hard to appreciate that in a lucklaster routine or if she’s pulling her face too much. I hope she and Marcquet pull off a killer routine this week or else I think they’ll be gone.
Happy- Bridget & Emilio (Anya & Pasha) - YES for some Panya choreography! Despite the song choice, I truly LOVED this dance. Panya made these two look incredible and this was one of my favorite routines of the night, actually! Bridget looked gorgeous and this is the first time I’ve been impressed with her since the showcase. I just love Emilio and even though his technique wasn’t perfect, I still think he did a decent job and he performed the heck out of that! If these two land in the bottom again, I’ll be majorly bummed!
Ne Me Quitte Pas- Emily & Teddy (Tyce Diorio) - (Teddy’s face and eyebrows still freak me out..) Routines like this make my hate Tyce a bit less. This was a gorgeous routine!! YES EMILY!!! I feel this girl was finalllly able to have a shining moment which she was long overdue for! She reminds me of Allison Holker with her movement and technque and plus she’s uber gorgeous! This is also the first time I’ve been impressed with Teddy so far. I still do not connect to him, but I believed him in this routine and I thought he partnered Emily well.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love- Brooklyn & Casey (Bonnie Story) - This felt a bit high school musical to me. I still feel nothing from Brooklyn, but I do feel she attempted some emotion this week. I didn’t feel much from Casey either, but his technique and control in this dance were great! I definitely think he stood out more in this piece than Brooklyn did. Overall, not super memorable in my book though..
I Won’t Give Up- Valerie & Ricky (Lacey Schwimmer) - I know this dance upset a LOT of people for a lot of reasons…and as a fan of this pair, I”m trying to be as objective as I can here.. I think this is one of the few pairs on the show that has a believeable connection whenever they dance. I always feel it from these two (in both rehearsals, dance, and interviews). I absolutely loved Valerie’s dress — but after re-watching, I wish it were a little smaller and less poofy. I think it got in the way of the dance a few times. As a dance fan and not a dancer, I think the two of them did a great job. I think the technique could’ve been better, but I don’t think it was bad by any means. People are also angry that Nigel stood up…FOR ONCE, I think he stood up for Valerie’s sake, not Ricky’s. I think he and the judges were happy to see Val emoting and performing to the level Ricky does. I do not think for any moment that he stood up for the technique or because it was the best dance of the night. I think Valerie (like Emily this week) had a special moment and a shining moment were growth was 100% seen in her performance. Yes, the judges hyped it, but both dancers did get called out on some technical aspects and were told to improve. It may not have been enough critique for some people, but that’s more than other “pimped pairs” had in the past.
Senile- Carly & Serge (Luther Brown) - I am not often a fan of Luther’s work, and this routine was another one I didn’t care for. It makes me so angry because I love this pairing, but I think the costumes were AWFUL and the makeup was horrible and I think it’s going to hurt them. I realize these are superficial reasons, but they matter in a competition like this. I think Carly hit this better than Serge and Serge felt stiff at times, but it was an okay routine. I think the two of them did the best they could with what they were given. Nigel throwing out those hateful voting comments weren’t necessary. It was either to guarantee their places in the b6 or to get people to vote and keep them safe.. Not sure which, to be honest.
Sing Sing Sing- Tanisha & Rudy (Warren Carlyle) - I really view these two as a power couple right now! Tanisha wasn’t one of my absolute favorites, but girl can DANCE and she’s amazing! Rudy — you either love him or hate him. I wish he was better technically, but I do think he has personality and heart to make himself stand out. He reminds me of Kent Boyd (kind of obnoxious for a while, eventually tones it down.) and Will Thomas who was so well loved by tons of people. I was slightly annoyed at how they called out Tanisha’s technique and not Rudy’s…but I do agree with Nigel. Rudy has personality that makes up for (SOME, not all) of his lack of technique. What a routine though! Loved the song, choreography, and the dancing from this pair!
Eliminations - not sad to see Jourdan go or Stanley either. I wish Stanley would’ve had some better luck because he is great, but I don’t think either of them were super strong after the showcase episode.
Bottom 3 predictions for next week? Oh goodness, here’s a mix of who I want/think should be there and who I think might end up there.
Girls: Brooklyn, Jessica, Carly
Guys: Casey, Marcquet, Serge
Excited for next week’s episode…but also nervous too. The 7/23 episode is HUGE. The performances on this night along with the voting will determine the top 10. (We will get down to top 14 this night and on 7/30 we will have a double elimination going from 14-10).
Sorry it’s long and sorry it took so long to put up. What did you all think of this week?
